Thrills & Spills For The Biocycle V6 Sprint Team!!

The Biocycle Waste Water Treatment V6 Sprint team made the 435km journey to Borderline Speedway in Mt Gambier for the 3rd Round of the V6 sprint Challenges series. The team had high expectation of the meeting as they new the track would be great to race on. Kate felt confident with the surface as in was quite similar to The Murray Bridge Speedway. Over the past few weeks the team had been building up another spare top wing to take away with them. The new wing is mounted on the top of the trailer. The V6 Sprints were sent out for hot laps at the start of the night before first round of heats. Kate, along with most of the class found the track conditions very slippery and tricky. Kate didn’t get many good laps in at full noise. The first heat saw Kate start out of position 6. The green light came on and the V6 sprints roared in to turn 1, Kate got a bad start and found herself having to make up a lot of ground from the back of the pack. A few cars in front dropped out and Kate got back passed another couple cars. The race came to an end, Kate finished in 6th position. The second heat saw Kate start up the front in position 4 behind the series leader Nick Hall. Kate knew he would be quick off the line and she needed to follow him and tuck in behind him in the first corner. Kate got a good start and snuck into 3rd position behind Mark Brown. The Laps counted down and Kate held her position. Kate was doing a great job and making valuable ground. She was hoping to get close another to make a move on the 2nd position when in turn 4 the right rear torsion arm hiem joint snapped making the back of the car drag on the chassis. Luckily Kate got off the throttle and paced her way in field. It was a frustrating end to what looked to be a good finishing position and some well needed points. The team fixed the car ready for a front row start in the A-Dash because of lack of points from the night’s heats. Kate was hoping to get a good start and beat Graham Knuckey into the first corner. This did not happen as she went from the front to the back in the first corner. This was disappointing. Kate raced hard and just got back passed Mark Brown on the line for 4th position. This meant it would be a 7th position start for the feature race. Just before the Biocycle team went out for the feature the team noticed a leak coming from the top of the radiator, it looks like it would be a non start for the team. The team just pushed the Green Machine out with 30 seconds to go before cut off. The first corner of the feature saw Lee Payne forced in to a spin knocking his front axel out. The Biocycle V6 sprint missed all this and was ready for the restart one position forward. The car was running well and Kate settled in a nice groove. She made some good ground on the two cars in front and was right on the tail of Brendan Quinn and Scotty Bob. Kate was ready to make a move on both the cars when Brendan Quinn drive line gave way and he slowed very quickly making it tough for Kate to avoid him. Kate ran over his right rear and did a massive mono coming down with a mighty crash. The front axel was bent because of the impact so the Biocycle Green Machine was forced to retire from the feature. After the car was pushed back in the team assessed the damage. After not a very successful night at the Borderline speedway the biocycle teams looks up and forward to the 4th round at Renmark speedway on the 6th of December. The Team hopes to see you there.
