Podium Finish At Bordertown For The Biocycle Team!
3/02/2010 10:42:03 PM - Kate Wiese Media

On Saturday the 30th of January the Biocycle Waste Water Treatment SA9 Lighting Sprint team made their way down to the Dukes Highway to the Tolmer Bordertown Speedway, for the Third round of the Smithfield Crash Repairs Lighting Sprint Challenge Series. The weather was very hot for racing. The format for the night was two 12 lap heats and 4 lap dash for top four points for the night and a 15 lap A-main feature race to finish the night off.
The cars had hot laps before the meeting as the Bordertown speedway had done a lot of track work in the off season and made the track a lot more banked and more of an oval shape. The track was great and would allow for some good racing.

The first heat saw Kate start out of position 1 along side Darryl Knuckey. They both got off to an even start but Darryl had some more speed coming out of turn two to drive away down the back straight. The SA9 held off the current state champ Brendan Quinn and Sam Putland for a few laps until a few mistakes crept in to Kate’s race due to lack of sight coming out of turn 2 from the sun. They both got passed her and Kate finished in 4th.

The second heat saw Kate start out of position 7, Right at the back of the bus. The Green machine got off to a fantastic start passing Darryl Knuckey, Wayne Goodwin and Sam Chapman in the first couple of laps. Moving up to position 4, it was close racing with the top 4. Kate was able to hold position 4 behind Mark Johnson. This would mean Kate was on 4th points for the night going in to the reverse grid dash. This meant Kate started out of position 1 for the dash.

The Dash was a copy from the first heat with Darryl and Kate dragging in to the first corner and down the back straight. Darryl got the better of the SA9 car coming out of turn 4 and Kate finished in a strong 2nd place. This meant that Kate started out of position 2 in the feature.

The feature was over 15 laps due to the small field. The Biocycle green machine started out of position 2 and got off to another drag with Darryl Knuckey. Kate ran a bit high coming out of turn 4 which allowed the SA17 of Sam Putland to make a move. The race was very close with only a couple of car lengths between all the positions. The race went green to chequer and Kate finished in a strong 3rd position for the night. The team were pleased with the result.

The Biocycle Lighting sprint team have now moved up to position 2 in the Smithfield Crash Repairs Lighting Sprint Challenge Series, behind Brendan Quinn, and hot on Kate’s tail is Sam Putland. Kate will need to work hard in the remaining rounds to hold off Sam and to also creep up on Brendan 1st place.

Kate’s next meeting will be in a fortnight, at Murray Bridge Speedway for the Des James Memorial race. It should be a great field of action. The team would love to see you all there. Come and say hi after the meeting in the pits to grab some posters.
