Podium Result For The Biocycle Team At The Des James Memorial!
16/02/2010 9:52:09 PM - Kate Wiese Media
On Saturday the 13th of February the Biocycle Waste Water Treatment SA9 Lighting Sprint team made their way just up the Freeway to the Murray Bridge Speedway, for the Des James Memorial. The weather conditions were good for racing. The format for the night was two 8 lap heats and a 20 lap A-main feature race to finish the night off. Over the past two weeks the Biocycle team had been working hard on finishing off a brand new power plant to place in the Green Machine for the remainder of the 09/10 season. After a few late nights fitting the engine in the car the Green Machine was ready for action.
As the team had never ran the engine before it was hard to know what gear sets to use. The first heat would see Kate start out of position 2. The SA9 got off to a fast start and pulled away from the field for the first lap or two until the SA1 of Brendon Quinn caught up to her and passed her for the first position. The engine had run out of legs and was revving up to 7000 revs. This didn’t allow Kate to go forward at all. Kate was able to hold on to the second place for this heat.
The second heat saw the Biocycle machine start out of position 7, right at the back of the pack. The team had altered the gear set in the car to make it go forward. It was a slippery, wet race. Kate was able to make a great move around the out side of the pack on the first lap. She went from 7th to 1st in the first lap which was a good result. It was very hard conditions and Kate was taking it easy to avoid spinning and undoing all her hard work. Unfortunately she was being to careful which allowed SA16 to slip past for the first position. Kate held on to the second position for this heat.
With the points from the two heats Kate would start from position 2 in the A-main event. This is a Trophy race in memory for Des James who was a former competitor of the V6 class.
The team was still not happy with the revs the car was pulling from the second race and replaced them with a different gear set for the third time that night. Kate was set for the feature and she knew it would be hard with the SA1 starting right along side her. The first start the SA9 got off to an o.k. start and dragged Brendon into the first corner and down the back straight before the yellows were brought on. Kate was a lot more confident for the second start and went for it a lot harder. Kate dragged away from the field in the first corner and down the back straight. She led the feature for a couple of laps until the unmistakable Brendon Quinn pass her and streamed away from the field. Kate was running very strong second position for most of the race. The green machine came under pressure by the third position of Sam Putland. Kate and Sam raced wheel to wheel lap after lap. They both came to lap traffic which was difficult for both drivers until Kate made a small mistake on one of the slower cars which left a bigger enough gap for Sam to place a pass on her. The race drew to an end and Kate was able to hold on to a strong finish in 3rd. This was the teams second podium in the Des James Memorial.
“I was happy with the new engine tonight, it is very fast. It’s a good result for the team. Our Major sponsor from Biocycle was here tonight so it’s great for him to see me get a good result for the team.” Kate said after the meeting.
Kate’s next meetings will be in a fortnight, at Mildura Speedway for a 2 day meeting on the 6th and 7th of March. The first night of racing will be the Mallee Shield and second night of racing will be the 4th round of the Smithfield Crash Repairs Challenge Series. It should be a great weekend of action. The team would love to see you all there. Come and say hi after the meeting in the pits to grab some posters.
The Biocycle Lighting Sprint team would also like to thank the following sponsors for their continuing support for the 2009/2010 season: -MITSISPARES -Tatiara Truck and Trailers -Green Welding -Blair Athol Auto Parts -Baines Engines -Steve Wicks Powder Coaters
